Still remember my other “stupidity” here? After several hours of investigation, I finally decide that the Jensen Copper Foil Paper Tube is not a good capacitor for bypassing purpose. The music will lose most of its detail. YMMV, this is based on my investigation. Feel free if you have other opinion.
On the other side, I still have the “Classic” Jensen Copper Foil Aluminium Tube. Surprisingly, this capacitor works better on the High Voltage bypass section! The price of this capacitor is only 1/3 of the Paper Tube. I will give some more listening test, but so far I would stick with this “Classic” Jensen on the bypass section. This “Classic” capacitor gives warmth sensation without losing the details.

October 15, 2009 13:52Hi Jimmy,
I love the experimentation that you do!!! Also thanks for sharing your favorite singers. I checked them out and ordered several. Thank you!
What value do you recommend for the Jensen copper foil/oil aluminum tube cap for PSU bypass?
Which PSU cap combination do you favor at this point? Do you prefer to keep the V-Cap with the Jensen aluminum tube, or only Jensen aluminum tube?
I have only heard of bypassing the high voltage PSU, why not the filament PSU,etc.?

October 15, 2009 13:53I meant to ask you what tubes types were in the 3 tube preamp that won the shoot-out this year. Do you know?

October 15, 2009 17:19Hi Dan,
For PSU bypass, I think 0.22-0.47 should be fine.
VCap is excellent on the PSU. But the final result may vary based on your system.
I use AC for filament, so not many bypassing needed (I use K40Y 0.1uF).
About the 3 tube preamp, sorry I forgot.
Thanks.

February 12, 2012 09:44Hello Jimmy, I like your capacitors review. Totally agree of jensen aluminum more “live energy” compared to the copper version. Wondering any disadvantages of mixing different caps for coupling? Will it sound “busy” compare to a single cap? though I have tried and agree of having best of both sonic. Thanks.

February 13, 2012 22:00Hi Ezlim,
Yes you can have best of both sonic by mixing them together, but at some point, you will lose coherency and less ‘seamless’ in the music pronunciation. Long story short, you only can have tonal balance by mixing multiple caps – but that’s it. Good single caps will beat those mixed caps, but probably at serious cost.
Thanks.
